Punjab is a land that has nurtured numerous exceptional police officers and politicians. The people of Punjab are known for having "big and brave hearts." However, only a few of them are thinking for the welfare of society at large. Jiwan Singh Umranangal and Paramraj Singh Umranangal are two names who have dedicated themselves to the progress and prosperity of this vibrant land.

Jiwan Singh Umranangal

Sardar Jiwan Singh Umranangal became the Sarpanch and Nambardar (village head) of his native village – Umra Nangal. He was an agriculturist by profession, but he also had an interest in politics, which led him to join politics as a career in 1952.

He was a former senior Akali Dal leader and former Punjab Revenue Minister as well. He was also appointed as the General Secretary of the Akali Dal and went on to become the Vice President of the party.

During that time, there was chaos and fear in the air, leading many people to choose to leave Punjab. However, it was senior Akali leader Jiwan Singh Umranangal who took the initiative to embark on a 45-day journey by foot to visit these people and request them to come back.

In 1987, former Punjab Revenue Minister Jiwan Singh Umranangal received the Maharana Partap award. In 1991, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan, and in 1996 he received the National Amity Award.

Paramraj Singh Umranangal

PS Umranangal has been appreciated and receives much appreciation for carrying out social welfare activities like (recently)- donations on the World Cancer Day for cancer patients.

When it comes to supporting the families of victims, he has been very kind and generous. He gave a INR 1 Lakh cheque to Raghbir Singh's family. He also helped Cop Harjeet Singh when he needed it. He has a big heart when it comes to helping others.

He did something very kind for the family of Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh, who sacrificed his life for the nation in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
